Kanye West recently revealed that he was offered $ 2 million to approve a part of fraudulent memes using his name.
THE schemewhich involved an initial payment of $ 750,000 and an additional $ 1.25 million after the promotion, also included instructions for him to claim later that his account had been hacked to cover approval. The crooks openly admitted that their goal was to steal millions of people to the public.
West refused the offer, stressing that it has rebuilt its net value at 2.77 billion dollars without resorting to cryptocurrency promotions. After his public rejection of the agreement, he asked for advice from a figure of confidence in the cryptography industry, with a recommendation pointing it to the CEO of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong.
Its revelation triggered renewed discussions on the mentions of celebrities in the cryptographic space, in particular the frequent claims of the hacks of social media account linked to promotions of questionable tokens. Some in the industry suspect that some influencers cannot really be hacked but willingly participate in such regimes.
The blockchain security expert Yu Xian, founder of Slowmist, admitted that these fraudulent offers are common, explaining that crooks often pay important influencers to promote tokens before claiming that they were hacked. With scams in the memes that thrive on the current market, the ease of making millions through fast prints remains a major concern.
