A Facebook user in Jackson sparked the conversation after posting a screenshot of a press release about a Bitcoin mining site announced earlier this year by a company called Grid. This post sparked many questions from the community.
Bitcoin mining is the process of tracking and recording cryptocurrency transactions, and during this process the facility can collect bitcoins from the blockchain network.
39 News spoke with Jackson Energy Authority, who gave us an update on the project. The parent company changed from Grid, recently acquired by Las Vegas-based Clean Spark. Jackson Data will be the name of the city’s local operation and will be a cryptocurrency mining operation.
Clean Spark is expected to begin full operation this month and will make an announcement at a later date. Reports show that Clean Spark owns seven mining sites in Tennessee so far.
39 News reached out to the city of Jackson, but the mayor had no comment because the company was a private company. Stay tuned with us for more updates.
