Golf influencer Paige Spiranac learned a lesson today: stay away from creating a memecoin.
Haliey Welch, better known on social media as “Hawk Tuah Girl,” has capitalized on her recent fame in several ways: but his last attempt crashed and burned before he could even take off.
Welch launched his own cryptocurrency on Wednesday, and it saw a pretty good run just hours after launch, reaching a market cap of $490 million. according to Cointelegraph, which cited data from DexScreener.
However, within hours, the coin known as Hawk dropped to just $41.7 million.
As controversy swirled around the piece, Spiranac posted on X with a slight jab at Welch and his team.
“If I’ve learned anything, it’s to never post a memecoin,” the post reads.
Bubblemaps, a site that analyzes blockchain data, found that a few people owned the vast majority of Hawk, leading to controversy over “snipers,” or investors who quickly buy up the majority of new tokens even when they are launched.
Welch spoke about it on a single token.
The 22-year-old celebrity told Fortune that Hawk wasn’t meant to be a “cash grab.”
She said that although she considered cryptocurrency a scam, she changed her mind because it’s a “fun way to get my fans to interact.”
