The official X account of the team behind the iconic meme cryptocurrency, Dogecoincreated and launched by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer in 2013, posted a tweet comparing Dogecoin to Bitcoin – not in favor of the latter.
The post was inspired by the recent news that the 10,000 Bitcoins spent by Laszlo Hanyecz, who bought a pizza with BTC in 2010, has now reportedly turned into $1 billion.
The post focused on the Dogecoin payment utility which they claim outperforms that of the world’s largest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin.
“DOGE will never have cost you $1 billion”
Dogecoin’s message In 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz spent 10,000 euros on two Papa John’s pizzas, which were delivered to his door by a random guy from a Bitcoin forum.
However, now that 10,000 BTC – if it hadn’t been spent on the pizzas – would have cost $1 billion and might still have belonged to Hanyecz.
Dogecoin’s post states that one can also buy a pizza with DOGE without having to worry that the coins spent will one day reach $1 billion in fiat currency. They emphasized that, perhaps unlike Bitcoin, Dogecoin is “a currency designed for everyday transactions, not adult fairy tales.” Dogecoin exists “for ordinary people,” the X post emphasized.
The Doge meme comes to the US Senate
As reported by U.Today, earlier this week, Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus, who is an active user of X and other social media platforms, commented on the recent emergence of a web with a meme Popular Doge during a session of the US Senate.
This painting was used during a speech by Senator Joni Ernst (IA) of the Republican Party. She spoke of the dire need to cut major government spending and praised DOGE – the Department of Government Efficiency led by billionaire entrepreneurs Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
“Doge is inevitable,” the senator proclaimed during her speech. On the web, Doge is overtaking Washington, DC. She urged other politicians to join DOGE and support it.
Billy Markus commented on this, saying he was very amused to see “this doge meme IN THE SENATE”.
