The crypto community has expressed various opinions following Kamala Harristhe choice of Tim Walz (D-Minn.) as her running mate.
What happened: Although neither Harris nor Walz have publicly shared their views on cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin BTC/USD And Ethereum ETH/USDsome investors hope they do so sooner.
“It’s an opportunity for them, but the window is closing quickly. At this point we need to see words and actions. Silence is complicity,” wrote a crypto investor Ryan Sean Adams.
Some crypto enthusiasts have pointed to Walz’s regulatory history. According to the American Association of Retired Persons, Walz was instrumental in implementing a law in Minnesota to strengthen regulation of cryptocurrency kiosks, aimed at mitigating cryptocurrency theft.
However, not everyone is optimistic about Walz’s regulatory approach. Investor Erik Finman called Walz the “WORST choice for Bitcoin,” alleging that Walz does not recognize the cryptocurrency as a valid form of payment.
Benzinga could not independently confirm Finman’s claims.
Editorial Director of The Digital Commonwealth, Darren Parkin, also pointed out that Walz is “a stickler for regulation,” leaving the inference hanging.
Governor Walz’s campaign has not yet responded to Benzinga’s questions.
Why it matters: Billionaire entrepreneur Marc Cuban expressed his belief that Walz could experience a similar surge in popularity as Harris as voters tire of the party’s ideologues.
The Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF) previously suggested that Harris and the Democratic Party urgently needs to be developed a comprehensive crypto program to compete with Republicans, especially the former president Donald Trumpwho has a pro-Bitcoin stance.
However, some industry experts remain skeptical of Harris’ recent outreach to the cryptocurrency community. Grant Cardone, CEO of Cardone Capitalcalled them political maneuvers, claiming that Harris had no changes towards the crypto industry.
