Fundraising platform JustGiving has rolled out support for cryptocurrency donations, significantly expanding the number of ways users can send funds to charities and fundraising campaigns.
Users of the UK-based crowdfunding site can now make donations denominated in more than 60 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, AttachedAnd Dogecointhe company said in a statement. The platform offers the new donation option amid a resurgence of retail interest in cryptocurrencies.
Digital asset payments company The Giving Block provides the infrastructure that allows JustGiving to accept crypto donations.
“Our goal is to make accepting cryptocurrency donations as easy as accepting any other online donation,” The Giving Block co-founder Alex Wilson said in a statement Monday. “Charities need to tap into this new donor demographic. »
JustGiving has been used to raise nearly $9 billion in donations over the past 24 years and could be poised to raise even more funds with its latest offering. Donations denominated in cryptocurrencies have brought billions into the coffers of charities in recent years.
More than $2 billion worth of crypto has been donated over the past five years or so. according to to The Giving Block’s 2024 Annual Report. Meanwhile, the average cryptocurrency donation is about 40 times that of a charitable offering denominated in fiat currency, JustGiving said in its statement.
