In an article on X, Shiba Inu Lucie’s marketing chief (@Luieshib) underlined the potential impact of the next “Pectra” upgrade of Ethereum on Shibarium, the layer 2 (L2) solution built by the Shiba Inu ecosystem. Availability to go out in April 2025, the Pectra upgrade Merge Two planned improvements – Prague (execution layer) and Electra (Consensus layer) – in a single revision designed to improve scalability, development and user experience on the Ethereum network.
How Shiba Inu will benefit from Pectra
Lucie underlines Several advantages that Ethereum’s evolution could bring to L2 platforms as Shibarium. In her article, she noted that the upgrade “will make layer solutions faster, cheaper and easier to use”, thanks in large part to innovative features aimed at reducing friction and improving accessibility. She explained: “Users will not need ETH for gas costs when moving assets, cost reduction and friction.”
In addition, there will be more easier integration. New users can start using layer 2 networks without first acquiring ETH, lowering the input barriers. In the end, the upgrading of pectra could lead to a higher adoption of Shiba Inu.
“Flexible gas payments and better user experience mean that more people will use L2, stimulate growth and efficiency. This upgrade makes Ethereum ecosystem more accessible and affordable, giving the solutions of layer 2 a huge boost, “concludes Lucie.
Ethereum Pectra upgrade combines several improvements designed to rationalize the main blockchain operations and strengthen its efficiency. This includes abstraction of the account (ERC-4337) which allows gas costs to be paid in any ERC-20 token rather than simply ETH.
Depending on the shibarium updates (@Shibizens), this could open up the possibility of using ecosystems Shiba Inu – Shib, OS or Cake – for transaction costs on Ethereum, although real adoption will depend on the portfolio and protocol support.
In addition, under Pectra, validators can undertake up to 2,048 ETH – a major jump from the current requirement of the 32 ETH. Although this increase can make stimulation on a large scale simpler, it also raises questions about centralization if a smaller number of validators accumulate disproportionate quantities.
The planned improvements of the Ethereum virtual machine (EVM) aim to reduce calculation costs and accelerate execution times, which makes it cheaper transactions for users. This, in turn, could improve the affordability of L2 activity, benefiting to shibarium and other solutions based on Rollup. A new data structure, Verkle Optimize how the information is stored and validated on the chain, reducing the storage requirements of the nodes and thus allowing the functioning of the smoother network.
Peerdas (peer data availability sampling), designed to strengthen L2 rollers by reducing costs and increasing flow, could give solutions such as Shibarium L2 an even stronger competitive advantage by improving the way out of chain data is managed and secure.
Although the potential for shib, bone or treat becomes viable gas expenses exist, in addition to several performance improvements for shibarium, experts warn that a large adoption of such features will be based on active participation and support of portfolio providers, decentralized applications (DAPP) and wider infrastructure. “(IT) depends on the adoption by portfolios and protocols,” concludes @Shibizens.
