Ethereum is preparing for a major upgrade that could allow users to pay fees in ERC-20 tokens like Shiba Inu (Shib).
This will be made possible via the next Pectra Hard range, a significant upgrade that combines 11 Ethereum improvement proposals (EIPS) in a single package.
Characteristic of abstraction of the Pectra account
Scheduled for March 2025, Pectra should inaugurate significant improvements in the effectiveness of the implementation, the conviviality of the portfolio and the scalability.
At the heart of the upgrade is the characteristic of account abstraction, which aims to improve the conviviality of the portfolio by making them more intuitive. With this feature, Ethereum users can pay gas fees using alternative ERC-20 tokens, in particular stablescoins, rather than being limited to the native token of the network, ETH.
Shiba Inu as gas costs on Ethereum?
This initiative initially supports the stablescoins ERC-20 like USD Coin (USDC) and DAI (DAI). Interestingly, speculation suggests that the Ethereum development team could support other ERC-20 tokens, including Shiba Inu ecosystems like Shib, Bone and Treat.
If this happens, Ethereum users can pay gas fees using Shiba Inu for tokens transfers, NFT trading and decentralized application transactions (DAPP).
It should be mentioned that in addition to Stablecoins, the Ethereum development team has not confirmed its plans to support other ERC-20 tokens for gas costs.
Last year, Shiba Inu marketing led Lucie underlines That Ethereum users cannot pay gas fees with SHIB, citing technical reasons and compatibility.
However, the upcoming launch of Pectra and the account of abstraction of the account create an opportunity for Ethereum users to pay transaction costs in Shib, Bone and Treat.
The abstraction of the simply explained account
Currently, Ethereum users have to maintain a small amount of eTH in their portfolios to pay gas costs. These costs cover transaction costs for actions such as sending tokens, NFTS trading or the use of DAPP.
With the upgrading of Pectra, Ethereum presents…
– Shibarium updates 📢 (@Shibizens) February 27, 2025
In addition to the abstraction of the accounts, Pectra should introduce other notable upgrades, such as the increase in the limit of appearance of Ethereum validators from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH.
It will also improve the features of the intelligent contract, will optimize storage and validation and make the 2 layer rollers like Shibarium more competitive.
Pectra’s hard fork
Meanwhile, the Pectra Hard Fork is preparing for its highly anticipated launch. Ethereum’s development team rolled up The upgrade on the Holesky Testnet this week on February 24. However, the upgrade has not ended as planned, marking a rare occurrence for the network.
In a follow -up declaration, Ethereum’s development team revealed that the problem of Pectra’s purpose on Holesky was serious but manageable. Despite this, the team moves forward with the upgrade, with the next Pectra testnet on SĂ©polia which should be launched on its scheduled date on March 5.
Sources suggest that Pectra could be launched on the Mainnet Ethereum in early April 2025 if the upgrade does not encounter any significant problem.
